One of the Collings Foundation B-17s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! this morning at Bradley Int’l Airport in Connecticut.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Witnesses say the WWII-era bomber hit a shed during a landing attempt, and multiple injuries have been reported. Numerous fire departments have been called to the airport, Connecticut’s largest, and more than two dozen emergency vehicles are on-scene.
Edit: Authorities now report two deaths, one critically injured flown to hospital, and at least five more transported via ambulance.
Eyewitness report, YMMV:
“He was treetop level when I saw him,” Nolan said. “And one of the engines wasn’t spinning.”

I think they only have (had I guess) the one B-17:
They had five aircraft scheduled to arrive at Bradley today:
a B-17G Flying Fortress heavy bomber, a B-24J Liberator heavy bomber, a B-25 Mitchell medium bomber, a P-51 Mustang fighter and a P-40 Warhawk fighter.
It’s sad, but it’s unavoidable that as long as these planes are flying we are going to lose some (and for a whole bunch of reasons, flying 75 year old planes is going to be way riskier than flying modern aircraft).

I know the Air Force Museum in Mesa, AZ, has a B-17. When I was there last month our guide mentioned there were a handful still flying.

Oh that’s very tragic, these things don’t exactly have ejection seats.

There are 18 B-17s registered with the FAA, and Collings has/d only the one B-17G.

Is this the same plane that crashed a few years ago? I heard they were going to rebuild it, but never heard the follow up. I flew in their B-17 about ten years ago, it was pretty magical.

I was referring to this:

There are definitely a bunch of others still flying with other groups.

There are only nine others flying in the entire world. Only thirty eight others are still around. Pretty crazy that they have more than one.

Some local reports have said there were as many as 13 on board. With only eight publicly accounted for I'm worried that casualty number may go up

Thanks, just posted an update. Given what little is left, I’d be surprised if anyone survived.
